The Hush Story

Hush House was once painted pink and it was the gathering place for artisans in Coromandel Town.  Many people lived there, crafted there and if walls could talk about those days there would be some good stories to be told.   It is believed that Hush is built on a ley line and perhaps this is why the place has such a special feeling.  It is peaceful, beautiful, and a real escape for anyone looking for a holiday/breakaway.   The 1940’s house opens up to a peaceful, private landscaped garden. It is a lovely sunny open plan house with rimu floors, and original features which have been added to by the many colourful Coromandel characters that have lived and visited there in the past.  Three bedrooms and two bathrooms complete the perfect holiday spot.

Hush’s land size is almost 1 acre but feels much larger with the clever design of the gardens and board walks.  The four stand alone private cabins built in 2008 gather around a communal Alfresco dining and kitchen area.   The cabins are all private and are very popular with couples looking for an affordable, peaceful, tasteful place to stay that is a little different from the traditional motel.

The bush setting makes it a great experience for our local and international guests also with lots of native birds amongst the trees.

Steve & Marilyn bought Hush a little over a year ago.   Their adventure started many years ago when they set sail in their own small yacht from Queensland in Australia to travel, explore, and eventually sail around the world.  It was during this adventure that they started working in the luxury charter yacht industry, initially in the Caribbean and then the Mediterranean and then through the Pacific back to New Zealand, their home country and eventually finishing their circumnavigation in 2000.  They realized just how beautiful New Zealand was and so when they decided to leave life on the sea it was an easy transition from hospitality on the water to hospitality on the land and Coromandel Town was their place of choice because of the beauty, peacefulness and a little bit of a step back in time.  So after being away for some time they are enjoying their little bit of paradise and look forward to welcoming you to Hush for your next stay.

At Hush we believe...

That life is too fast and we often miss what is important. Hush is all about slow living - it is good for the soul.
